I cycled over to the site of the final home of Lafcadio Hearn in the Ōkubo area of Shinjuku in Tokyo at the weekend. The first time I visited, about ten years ago, it was being used as a garbage collection point. It was much cleaner this time. The house, which could have been a great tourist draw, as is his house in Matsue in the west of Japan, was was unfortunately lost during World War ll. A tragic loss!
